Nishi Patel

Nishi Patel is a South Asian American artist and poet living in Fort Worth, Texas. A self-taught creative since childhood, her artwork consists of abstract and semi-abstract paintings. After her father's death from cancer, Nishi self-published her first poetry book, The Inheritance of Grief (2022). Nishi holds a Clinical Laboratory Scientist degree and is a credentialed Montessori teacher, which influences how she sees the world on both the microscopic and macroscopic scale. She works out of a large spare room that functions as her kids' playroom and her art studio. You can find her work displayed around her local community in places such as the library, dance studios, and coffee shops.

I am inspired by nature and fueled by emotions. As an introvert, I absorb the energies of my natural surroundings, relationships, and personal feelings. I start with a minimal palette of colors and intuitively add shape, texture, and more colors as I progress deeper into the vibrations of an experienced moment. The final piece is a visual conversation on canvas before words can claim them. Common themes include the co-existence of grief and joy, chaos and calm. My floral artwork is a focused snapshot of joy bursting through the colors and textures of the painting. More recently, I have been pouring fluid acrylics to create abstract paintings that dive deep into the landscape of grief and allow the freedom to explore the unknown.
