Hege Karoliussen | Art Queens Society

Hege Karoliussen has an AA in photography from Academy of Art University San Francisco, and worked as a commercial photographer for 15 years. Now she is devoting her time to her lifelong passion, drawing, working in pastels and colour pencils. The drawings are filled with narratives, contrasts, and the impermanence of being human.

After working for 15 years as an Art for Commerce photographer in the jewellery business, Hege Karoliussen - Kay - decided to make a career shift into Mixed Media Fine Art. She works on paper, using e.g. colour pencils, watercolour, ink and markers.

Growing up on a windswept island in Northern Norway, Kay has developed an eye for great contrasts and mastered the dark humour one needs to live and thrive in such hard conditions as in the Arctic. She is creating emotive and humorous narratives around the wonders of nature, the impermanence of being human, sustainability and the connection we all have with everyone and everything around us.

With an AA in photography from Academy of Art, and after 15 years as a professional photographer, Kay has had images shown digitally across the web and social media as well as in printed ads and editorials, and in publications such as the New York Times. She has had work shown in Womankind Magazine and has published a Coffee Table Book about glass art called “Uniques”. Kay is currently living and working in Copenhagen, Denmark.
