Observed from life, my subjects are interpreted into a composed world of light, color, and shapes. Light, color, and shape are abstract formal elements that provide the structure for my representational depictions. I engage with the deep sense of beauty I feel from the abstract elements I observe.

My preferred medium is paint, but my artistic practice also includes drawing, sculpture and printmaking. Different creative disciplines inform one another, and one becomes a better painter by becoming a better draftsman, printmaker, and sculptor.

I wish to convey psychological narratives through environments, light, and  atmosphere. My sense of humanity and spirit is expressed in the posture of a person, character of a place, or the disposition of still life objects in my work. My work invites the viewer to experience the presence of the sitter, scene, or object that I’ve felt while making the piece. Grappling with formal elements of painting I desire to leave the viewer not with a reproduction of life but with an intangible feeling.
